Contributor Guidelines
Last updated: October 2026
Legal News Report welcomes story ideas and contributions from writers, journalists, and professionals with real knowledge of consumer law, housing, employment, settlements, and business closures. These guidelines explain what we publish and how to pitch.
What we’re looking for
- Clear, practical explanations of a specific legal problem readers face
- Reporting on new laws, court decisions, enforcement actions, or settlements, based on primary documents
- State-specific guides that explain real differences in law or procedure
- Expert perspectives from attorneys, legal aid professionals, or researchers, written for a general audience
What we don’t publish
- Promotional content for a firm, product, or service
- Articles written mainly to place links
- Content that gives individualized legal advice
- Unsourced claims, or articles that copy or lightly rewrite other publications
- Content generated without human research and verification
Standards every piece must meet
All contributions follow our Editorial Standards. Contributors must:
- Cite primary sources, such as statutes, court records, agency guidance, and official notices, with links
- State which jurisdiction the article covers
- Disclose any professional or financial interest in the topic
- Accept editing for accuracy, clarity, length, and style
We may decline or edit any submission. Publication is not guaranteed.
Links and disclosure
We include links when they help readers. Any sponsored or paid placement is clearly labeled and its links are marked as sponsored. We do not sell unlabeled links.
Pitch a story
Send a short pitch, not a finished article. Please include:
- A proposed headline and two or three sentences on the reader problem it solves
- The jurisdiction or audience it covers
- The main sources you plan to use
- A brief bio and links to two or three published examples of your writing
- Any professional or financial interest in the topic
Send your pitch through our contact page with “Pitch” in the subject. If your idea is a fit, we’ll reply with next steps.
